Story HighlightsIntel stock has dipped 23.04% after weaker-than-expected Q4 guidance due to declining PC demand, manufacturing disruption and high CapEx.
The company outdid several Wall Street estimates, including net revenue and EPS, but missed on PC chips revenue.
Analysts are maintaining a collective "overweight" rating reflecting the long-term AI turnaround shared by CEO Lip-Bu Tan.
Intel Corporation stock (Nasdaq: INTC) has dropped a massive 23.04% in after hours to trade at $70.86 after communicating severe Q4 guidance cuts, prolonged slump in personal computer (PC) demand and manufacturing disruptions.
Intel Q3 2026 earnings report summary
Intel’s performance outdid Wall Street estimates across several financial benchmarks. Net revenue came in at $16.51 billion, up 21% year-over-year (YoY) against the expected $16.48 billion. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) reached $0.52, strongly beating the $0.40 consensus. Furthermore, the adjusted operating margin climbed to 19.6%, up from 11.2% in the same period last year.
In data center and AI (DCAI), revenue jumped 78% YoY to $7.3 billion, due to exceptional demand for Xeon server processors necessary for agentic AI functionality. The company’s semiconductor manufacturing unit, Intel Foundry, saw revenue surge by 58% YoY to $6.7 billion, showing better yields on advanced nodes like Intel 3 and Intel 18A.
However, Client Computing Group (CCPG / PC chips) revenue dropped 5% to $8.1 billion, missing estimates amid soaring memory costs and tight IT budgets stifling laptop demand.
Reasons for issuing weak Q4 guidance
While Q3’s performance was mostly impressive, the company projected Q4 revenue of $15.0 billion to $16.0 billion, missing Wall Street’s forecast of $17.1 billion. Even more, Intel projected an EPS of $0.25, which was well below analysts’ projections of $0.43.
Both metrics were attributed to three primary reasons. The first is an extension of declining PC demand into 2027, with CFO David Zinsner warning of a 10% purchase contraction next year.
Second is the disruption of a semiconductor fabrication plant in Israel following a recent tragic explosion after a gas cylinder malfunction. The incident will cost the company $300 million in revenue for each of the two upcoming quarters (Q4 2026 and Q1 2027).
Thirdly, the company expects to scale capital expenditure (CapEx) in 2027 past the $20 billion slated for 2026. For this reason, the company warned that it is unlikely to generate any free cash flow during this period.
Intel stock price action and prediction
In the after hours, Intel stock price fell by 23%, shedding up to $112 billion in market cap.
Before the latest financial report, Intel was on a phenomenal run, gaining about 150% year-to-date. The severe slump shows investors’ hypersensitivity to near-market company margins despite Intel communicating strong long-term AI plans.
